Holistic Home Birth Care
Shine offers personalized, evidence-based, midwifery services to women in Oregon's Mid-Willamette Valley. This includes hour long prenatal visits, labor support, birth, & 8 weeks of postpartum care for you and your baby. Enjoy prenatal visits in the comfort of your own home or our office. Prenatally you will be seen following the standard prenatal schedule listed below. Postpartum, there is no need to leave home. You and your sweet new baby will receive home visits.
You will receive comprehensive care that includes monitoring your physical and emotional well-being, individualized education, and counseling. The natural process of birth is supported by laboring in a familiar, safe, and comfortable atmosphere surrounded by people you know and trust. Your midwives quietly monitoring the well-being of you and your baby and assessing that everything is progressing normally.
Midwifery care has been shown to limit unnecessary interventions and improve outcomes. As a healthy woman, home is a wonderful and safe place where you can allow labor to take its normal course.
INFORMATIVE AND COMPASSIONATE
Prenatal Visits
There's a renewed focus on health and well-being during pregnancy. Prenatal visit are a great way to make time to help support your physical and emotional health. Visits are generally an hour long and can be adjusted longer or shorter to meet your needs. You will have a midwife available throughout your pregnancy to help with questions or concerns.
Ideally our first appointment will be between 8 - 10 weeks. It is also common for people to transfer care later in pregnancy.
We follow the standard prenatal schedule:
Every 4 weeks from 8 - 28 weeks.
Every 2 weeks from 28 - 36 weeks.
Weekly after 36 weeks.

Birth
The special day has come. What to expect? We will be on-call and available for you when you’re in labor; providing as little or as much support as you need.
We are trained in water birth and hydrotherapy. Of course, it’s up to you if you want a water birth or land birth.
After the birth, you and your baby will have lots of uninterrupted time. Your baby will receive a newborn exam after, at least, an hour of undisturbed skin-to-skin time. You will have support with you until you have successfully fed your baby, your questions have been answered, and you're comfortably snuggled up in bed with your adorable new baby.
We will do a light cleaning before leaving so that your home will look like it did before giving birth.
HERE FOR YOU AND YOUR BABY
Postpartum Visits
The postpartum period is such a special time and where midwifery care really shines. You and your baby will receive in home care for the first 6 - 8 weeks postpartum. During this time we will stay in close contact and monitor how you are both doing and offer any support needed.
Some common areas of support are, help with breastfeeding, weight checks, learning babies cues, and becoming confident in caring for your newborn. We encourage all women to stay home for at least the first two weeks. To really take time caring for yourself and your baby.
